MINISTRY OF HEALTH
Hon.
Commissioner Dr. Yeri Everton Peter
The
Ministry
was created to essentially provide responsive and basic healthcare service
to all citizens in the state.
Health Care
Delivery
Apart
from a large two-unit University Teaching Hospital in Kaduna and Zaria,
there are large and fully equipped government hospitals located in Zonkwa,
Jama'a and Kafanchan as well as in Kaduna and Zaria. Smaller government and
privately owned ones are also found in towns like Birnin Gwari, Kagoro,
Saminaka and Soba. The State Government, together with the Federal
Government and the World Health Organisation (WHO), have also established
Comprehensive Primary Health Care Units in some selected rural areas; (e.g.
Yaka Wada in Giwa LGA) which cater for child care, pre and ante-natal health
care.
INNOVATIVE APPROACHES TO GOOD HEALTH BY ARCH NAMADI SAMBO
Poor health and malnutrition impair physical and
mental capacities, and therefore the ability for productive work. This has
been amply demonstrated time and time again. Despite bi-directional
causality, these findings suggest that fighting hunger may be a
growth-promoting economic investment, not only a human rights obligation.
The importance of the agricultural sector and of rural poverty has led many
countries to pursue strategies focused on reducing chronic food insecurity
through increasing the productivity of small farmers. Such strategies
require that financial resources and institutional capacity be available,
and that rural poor can access productive land and affordable inputs, and
that the non-farming poor can express their unsatisfied food needs in terms
of effective demand. In most case, however, this approach is constrained in
scale by lack of resources, domestic and external, and institutional
capacity.
Since adequate nutrition, health and elementary
education are prerequisites for inclusive economic growth, ensuring the
broadest possible access to essential food needs, safe water, primary health
care and primary education may well be an indispensable use of scarce
resources to reach the WFS target. Therefore, Namadi Sambo's direct
interventions aimed at boosting current food production and at creating
conditions for healthy living are right as they accompany policies
(including public investment priorities) aiming at overall and agricultural
development.
Governor
Arch Mohammed Namadi Sambo is a true democrat, whose approach to problems is
always humane and conciliatory he is a man of peace who patiently looked to
the future with courage and hope. His commitment in the direction of
transforming the state into a relatively better integrated and functional
polity is continuing with a mission to create a stable and cohesive
polity capable of securing effectively the interests of the various
communities and giving them the opportunity to develop and live in peace
with one another. |
