3rd September 2009
The attention of the
People’s Democratic
Party has been drawn
to a press statement
entitled “KADUNA
STATE IS IN BONDAGE”
by the state chapter
of Action Congress.
The said statement
signed by the
publicity secretary,
Barrister Mohammed
Musa Soba, said that
the party was
concerned over what
it described as the
disturbing trend of
events in the state
under the leadership
of Governor Mohammed
Namadi Sambo in the
last 27 months.
The statement also
lamented the recent
foreign investment
tour by the governor
adding that
government was
indebted to various
banks, including the
World Bank, SKYE
Bank and NEXIM Bank,
among others.
Ordinarily there
would have been no
need to respond to
such unfounded and
spurious statement
which no doubt was
designed to
misinform and
instigate the good
and peace loving
people of Kaduna
state. But in order
to put the records
straight and correct
the misinformation,
the party is
constrained to
urge the people to
ignore the said
statement by Action
Congress (AC).
It is unfortunate
that Action Congress
could descend so low
to describe the
recent visit by the
Governor to Saudi
Arabia as
‘globetrotting’
given the huge
success of the trip.
For the information
of AC and those who
are yet to know, the
huge benefit derived
from that trip,
Kaduna state
government secured a
non-interest loan of
USD15million loan
from the Islamic
Development Bank,
for the construction
of four science
secondary schools in
the state. The state
governor should be
commended for having
the foresight to go
for such a loan at a
period of this
recession and to
better the lives of
his people. This
loan facility is not
for only Kaduna
State but for all
member countries
around the world and
to discover and
access the facility
is no mean feat.
Similarly, AC should
come up with proofs
to justify that the
state is indebted to
the World Bank, skye
bank and nexim bank
rather than throwing
tantrums in the air
Education is one of
the focal points of
the Mohammed Namadi
Sambo administration
and government is
determined to do
everything possible
to enhance the
development of the
sector. Government
is not unaware of
certain activities
of its detractors
including some
elements within AC
who are yet to
appreciate efforts
of government in
ensuring development
reaches all the nook
and cranny of state
within the shortest
possible time.
On the so called
high debt profile of
the state
government, it has
become imperative to
once again educate
AC on various other
programmes of
government including
the New Millennium
City project as well
as government’s
initiative in
improving the
electric power
generation and
supply in the
state. Government
is in the process of
realizing some of
these projects in
collaboration with
the private sector
including some of
the banks. It is a
display of ignorance
for a section of the
people to oppose
such developments
that are designed to
improve the
wellbeing of the
entire people of the
state.
It is obvious that
AC is not abreast of
recent positive
developments in the
state especially
since the inception
of this
administration.
Government had
rolled out its
11-point agenda and
about two years
after, it is on
record that
government has
touched the lives of
the majority of the
people in the areas
education, health,
rural
infrastructural
development,
agriculture and self
empowerment, among
others. It is also
on record that AC in
Kaduna state has
never been relevant
in any way in the
state. It would seem
that the moribund
party is merely
seeking for cheap
relevance.
Government does not
frown at opposition
especially when
constructive
criticisms will
enable it to live up
to expectations of
keeping its mandates
and electoral
promises to the
people of the state.
However, we hasten
to say that
government will not
condone any efforts
designed to
instigate the people
through deliberate
misinformation.
