FORMER Military Governor of Kaduna State, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Usman Muazu (rtd)  Dies At 66

From SA on ICT, Kaduna

May 9,  2008

It was songs of sorrow and lamentations as the north suffered yet another blow in the cruel fangs of death as one of its prominent sons, father, and military governor of the old Kaduna State and a member of the business community, Air Vice-Marshal Usman Muazu (rtd.) breathed his last, after a brief illness in Kaduna, at the age of 66.

AVM Muazu who governed Kaduna between 1984-85, was born in Kwoi, Kaduna State in 1942. He attended Kwoi Primary School in 1950, Zaria Middle School in 1954, Senior Primary School, Soba in 1955 and Provincial Secondary School, Zaria before going for higher studies at the Institute of Administration, Ahmadu Bello University, ABU, Zaria.

A brief in his military career indicates that AVM Muazu attended the Nigerian Defence Academy NDA, where he was generally appreciated as a disciplined and level headed officer, before he went to West Germany for his professional military training. He was also at the United States of America to study military strategies and defence where he graduated with accolades at its Air War College.

As a commissioned officer of the Nigerian Air force, AVM Usman Muazu served in various capacities in the Nigeria Air force, prominent among which is the Nigeria Air force Command, Command and Staff College, Jaji and Command Training College, Kaduna.

AVM Muazu a thorough-bred professional was a one time administrator of the Nigerian Airways and Air Officer Commanding Training Command, Nigeria Air Force in 1984 before his appointment as military governor of old Kaduna State under the former head of state, General Mohammadu Buhari in 1984.

On retirement from the military at the rank of an Air Vice-Marshal, Usman Muazu joined the business community where he successfully played a prominent role in trade and commerce for the good of his people.

Married with four children, AVM Muazu whose hobby is reading and sports would be most remembered as a brilliant military officer, an administrator of repute, a loving husband and a caring father whose death would create a big vacuum that cannot be easily filled.

As many friends and sympathisers throng to the family compound of the deceased to pay their condolences and offer prayers for the repose of the soul of late AVM Muazu, his remains has been committed to mother earth according to Muslim rites in Kaduna.
