KADUNA STATE GOVERNMENT DEVELOPS HYDRO ELECTRICITY

From SA on ICT, Kaduna

April 26,  2008

Kaduna State Government is to spend over two hundred and forty-nine million naira for the development of Major Dams to generate Hydro Electricity in the State. The State Executive Council its meeting approved the award of the Contract with a mandate to the Consultant to Generate Power to compliment Power Holding Corporation of Nigeria (PHCN) in order to rekindle the ailing Textile Industries in the State. Commissioner of Information and Home Affairs, Alhaji Saidu Adamu disclosed this to Government House Correspondents shortly after the State Executive Council meeting which was presided over by Governor Mohammed Namadi Sambo at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House Kaduna.

The Consultant, the Commissioner said would carry out Feasibility Studies and determine the location where the Plant would be sited because anything to do with generating Hydro Power would require adequate water supply to be able to propel the turbines that would give energy and power.

It would be recalled that the State Government in its efforts to ease the problem being faced regarding power spent over five hundred million naira for the purchase of Transformers. Earlier in the day, Governor Mohammed Namadi Sambo paid an unscheduled visit to Murtala Square, site for the construction of Sporting Facilities preparatory to the hosting of the 16 National Sports Festival (NAFEST) scheduled to take place in the State in November this year. During the visit the Governor inspected on-going works for the various games like the Law Court, Basket Ball Courts Swimming Pool. He also inspected the site of the Indoor Sports Hall where he discovered that the contractor had to revoke the contract which he said would be re-awarded to a more serious contractor.

Henceforth, state  government would no longer tollerate lukewarm attitude of contrctors who will not fulfill their own part of the bargain after mobilization fees and not carrying out works according to specifications.

In another development the State Government would enter into partnership with the Islamic Development Bank (1DB) which is going to assist in the construction of water treatment in Zaria and would also build Primary Schools and Science Secondary Schools in the State.

Governor Arch Mohammed Namadi Sambo is a true democrat, whose approach to problems is always humane and conciliatory he is a man of peace who patiently looked to the future with courage and hope. His commitment in the direction of transforming the state into a relatively better integrated and functional polity is continuing  with a mission  to create a stable  and cohesive polity capable of securing effectively the interests of the various communities and giving them the opportunity to develop and live in peace  with one another.
