PRESS STATEMENT
The Kaduna State Government has received
with joy, the Government ranking it received from the Word
Bank and the International Finance Corporations.
This is contained in a formal release
titled "Doing Business in Nigeria 2008" as the
First Sub-national Report on Sub-Saharan Africa in the
Doing Business Series.
The report, which is a sixty-page document,
covers 10 States and Abuja FCT, Comparing them with each
other and with 178 Economies around the world. The
comparisons are based on how government activity enlarge
or restrain business activity. The document focuses on
four doing business indicators with substantial
sub-national variance in Nigeria. These are starting a
business, dealing with licenses, registering property and
enforcing contracts.
The report further stated that the
indicators are used to analyze the economic outcomes of
regulations and to identify what reforms have worked and
why. Though the journal lists other factors germane to
business such as the quality of infrastructure services,
proximity to major markets, security of property from
theft and looting, transparency of government
procurements, status and stability of macro-economic
conditions and quality of institutions were not studied
directly by Doing Business.
Amongst the ten States selected are Kaduna,
Bauchi, Kano, Sokoto, Abia, Enugu, Lagos, Anambra, Cross
River and Ogun States with Abuja as the Federal Capital
Territory; Kaduna State was ranked the first in the
rating taking into cognizance all the factors earlier
mentioned.
The State Government promised to continue
to provide the enabling environment for business to
