The programme came to an end on the 5th
of June 2008 with award presentation to deserving staff of
the participating Ministries and Local Government Areas.
At the National Event in Abuja which held between the 9th
and 10th of June 2008, the State was awarded
coveted trophies in the following categories.
(i) The State with the Most
Comprehensive Approach to Health Sector Reform
(ii) The State releasing most
resources to Primary Healthcare.
The first award took into consideration the
introduction of Free Medical Care To Children Under 5
Years and Pregnant Women, the inauguration of Health
Management Boards and Committees in all our hospitals and
Facility Health Committees in most of PHCs, the
introduction of a sustainable Drug Supply System, the
introduction of new Charts of Account and activity Base
Budgeting for better tracking of funds and the
introduction of a District Health Information System (DHIS)
for complete capture of health data in our hospitals and
clinics for informed decision making among others.
The second award took into consideration
the timely release of funds for the implementation of free
MCH and not just its provision in the budget, the
construction of PHC by the State Government to improve the
issues of access including the 16 PHCs constructed by the
HSDP II and full implementation of free MCH.
