Kaduna Spends N5.4 Billion On Feeder Roads

Kaduna — THE Kaduna state government has awarded a contract worth N5.4 billion naira for the construction of 23 feeder roads across the 23 council areas of the state.

The commissioner of Information and Home affairs, Alhaji Adamu Saidu who disclosed this on Wednesday at the quarterly news briefing which held at the NUJ press Centre in Kaduna added that the project was being jointly funded by the state government and the 23 local councils in the state.

Saidu said work on the roads has reached advanced stage of completion, adding that the state government is determined to improve the living condition of rural communities.

He disclosed further that various communities in the state have been mobilized and sensitized on need to embark on self help projects in order complement government efforts at providing basic amenities, adding that the state government had organize training for frontline development workers from the 23 councils for this purpose.

 

According to him, after the training, the state government disbursed the sum of N30m as assistance to 130 community development projects, some of which include the construction of schools, clinics, roads and town halls.

The commissioner further disclosed that the state government also spent N742.9m for the purchased of 150 transformers which were distribution to communities in the 23 local councils as part of efforts aimed at addressing electricity problems in the state.

 

Saidu said, presently the government is providing solar power to 12 rural communities in 12 local councils areas in the three senatorial zones under the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

The communities, according to him, include; Fantan, Keruntumawa, Katsalle, Ashafa, Ngade, Unguwar Maje, Unguwar ANcha, Kono, Dogon Daji, Ngirfe and Kussom.
