NIGERIANS IN DIASPORA
TO ESTABLISH A PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANY IN KADUNA
STATE TO BE CALLED
KADUNA MILLENIUM PHARMACEUTICAL LIMITED
Following His Excellency Arc Namadi
Sambo's meeting with some prominent Nigerians in Diaspora
during the World Bank Spring Meeting in Washington DC, USA,
a group from the Pharmaceutical Industries decided to come
and establish a Pharmaceutical Company in Kaduna state based
on a PPP arrangement. Arrangement has reached advanced state
in the preparation for setting up the company
The benefits that will accrue from this project to Kaduna
state include but not limited to:
-
The generation of over 500 new jobs, most of which would
be high paying jobs, during the first three years of
operation of the company.
-
200 jobs (manufacturing and plant administration)
-
300 jobs ( Medical representatives, distribution
and accounting etc)
-
Substantial savings to the state administered
health-care program. It is conservatively estimated that
the State government present drug program cost will be
reduced by a minimum of 50%.
-
Revenue generation for the government and local economy
in the form of additional tax base from both corporate
taxes as well as individual taxes.
-
Most important, the provision of low cost, affordable
and genuine generic drugs to our citizenry,
particularly the elderly that consume lots of
prescription drug and the poor.
-
Furthermore, it is anticipated that Millennium
Pharmaceutical Limited will be listed as a public
company, following an initial public offering (IPO), on
the Nigerian Stock Exchange after 3 years of operation.
Kaduna State Government as an investor in this
Public-Private Partnership (PPP) will benefit immensely
financially. The funds that would be raised through the
IPO will be used to develop the permanent site of the
company, increase company’s product portfolio offering
and for company’s administrative and other expenses.
-
It is further anticipated that the proposed
pharmaceutical manufacturing plant will meet US FDA
standards and hence qualify to manufacture drugs for
third world countries under the Canadian, US government,
Bill and Melinda Gates Foundations and WHO programs for
anti-malarials, HIV and other drugs.
-
The Quality Control Laboratory of Kaduna Millennium
Pharmaceutical Limited will be able to tests, for a fee,
products purchased by the State Government from
vendors/suppliers to ensure that quality products are
dispensed by government institutions to our citizenry
and not fake adulterated drugs
