SPEECHES BY GOV. ARC. NAMADI SAMBO (From SA on ICT Office)

STATE BROADCAST BY HIS EXCELLENCY THE EXECUTIVE GOVERNOR OF KADUNA STATE ARC. MOHAMED NAMADI SAMBO (fnia) ON THE NEED FOR THE PEACEFUL CONDUCT OF THE FORTHCOMING LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS, FRIDAY, 25TH JANUARY 2008.

Fellow citizens,

We are once again in another period of electioneering for the Local Government Elections.

As law abiding citizens, we are expected to conduct ourselves with civility, in an orderly, peaceful and responsible manner, to discharge our civic responsibility to the best of our abilities with the interest of our communities paramount in our hearts.

You will recall that the 2007 April elections has come and gone with sweet memories and good conduct of both the Presidential and Gubernatorial elections where the will of the people reigned supreme and the electorates exercised their rights of franchise without let or hindrance.

That election ushered in a newly democratically elected government and ensured the first successful transition from civilian to civilian administration, a feat achieved through resilience and patriotism by both the Government and the Governed.

The forthcoming Local Government elections coming up on the 26th January 2008 is a litmus test to our people to enable us build from a solid foundation laid down for us by our predecessors.

Our clarion call to our people is to make concerted efforts to continue to promote, protect, guide jealously and advance the course of our nascent democracy.

While we make such calls to our people to conduct themselves responsibly and orderly, we make haste to say that Government will not hesitate to take measures against all untoward actions aimed at subverting the will of the people or sabotaging the conduct of the elections.

Government wishes to assure all the participating political parties and the various candidates fielded by such parties that there will be a level playing field as such they should ensure a hitch-free electioneering campaigns and elections come 26th January 2008.

Fellow citizens, I wish you a rancour free elections and I pray that you will elect leaders that will help move the State forward. May God be with us as we journey into the elections.

Thank you and God bless.
