SPEECHES BY GOV. ARC. NAMADI SAMBO (From SA on ICT Office & the Press Sec Office)

SPEECH BY HIS EXCELLENCY THE EXECUTIVE GOVERNOR OF KADUNA STATE, ARC MOHAMMED NAMADI SAMBO AT THE FLAG-OFF CEREMONY OF ICT TRAINING WORKSHOP FOR CIVIL SERVANTS IN THE STATE ON MONDAY, 16TH JUNE, 2008, AT DIALOGUE COMPUTER TRANINIG INSITUTE, NO 1 KUDAN ROAD BY LEGISLATIVE QUARTERS, U/DOSA, KADUNA, AT 10:00 AM

I feel highly elated to be in your midst to witness this ceremony of ICT Training Workshop for Civil Servants in the State.

On our assumption of office, we made a commitment towards revamping and retraining the entire personnel in the Civil Service in order to achieve e-Governance in the State. Thereafter, a roadmap was designed and pursued which involved ICT training that will cut across all strata and cadre of the Civil Service; these includes the procurement of computer laptops and desktop and the installation of Internet Facilities amongst others.

The ICT training, which we are here to commission, is an e-Governance initiative put in place to promote the optimal use of ICT in ensuring efficient, effective, transparent and accessible Government.

In pursuance to our resolve and in order to implement the project, in December 2007, Honourable Commissioners, Permanent Secretaries as well as Chief Executives of Parastatals were trained in ICT by a reputable firm, Dialogue Computer Institute, which is still undertaking this training. This was preceded by the distribution of two hundred (200) laptops to Honourable Commissioners, Special Advisers, Permanent Secretaries and Chief Executives of Parastatals.

Having trained the top public officers on the ICT, we further approved the training of additional eight thousand (8000) Civil Servants of various categories as the first phase of this project to ensure the e-Governance initiative covers the whole service. In this regard, Government has approved the release of the sum of N120 Million for the training exercise. This is in our firm belief that the adoption of the ICT training in the Civil Service will be for the betterment of all workers as it will make them compete favourably in an increasing ICT driven world.

Our gathering here together to perform the flag-off ceremony of the ICT training for Civil servants in Kaduna State portends a glad tiding for the future of the service in the State.

It is my singular honour and privilege to flag-off the ICT training Workshop for Civil Servants in the State.

Thank you and God bless.
