The ministry
of youth and sport was established to take sports in Kaduna to a new heights.
Kaduna state participated in the 13th nation sport festival, (NSF)
tagged EDO 2002, at Benin city, Edo state. The state competed in 16 events won
two (2) gold, ten (10) silver and eleven (11) bronze medals, making the state
23rd on the nation medal table. The state government for the first
time has floated its own football club, Kaduna united football club, with its
own management committee. To this effect, the government has released a bus
for effective and easy and easy mobility of the team for home and far away
matches.
In October, the
state under 12 team won the masters national trophy. Their under 10
counter-parts also won the lord runners trophy in darts. All the
competitions were held in Lagos. Kaduna state Para-soccer team also won the
2nd place trophy in a national competition played in Abuja. The
youth sports federation of Nigeria (YSFN) competed in the Abuja cup
competition in December, 2001and Mando united won the trophy, while high
Landers Football Club won the best-behaved team trophy.
Kaduna State
under 12 Soccer team won the Agro- Matrix organized Junior championship gold
medals. The Ministry received, again, third place medals won by YSFN in the
RAMAT international cup competition held in Gumel, Jigawa state in February
2002. thee same YSFN team won also the 3rd position trophy in the
National MALAKACHALLA tournament.
The Ministry in
conjunction with the presidency, under the presidential advisory
Committee set up by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria
organized a youth summit for youth in the state . A total of (about ) 300
youths, drawn from the 23 local government areas of the state participated.
The summit was on the proper implementation of the National Youth Policy.
The Ministry is
a member of the committee on Poverty Eradication in the state. The Ministry
has one of its programme, “Youth Self Employment “ This programme is aimed
at eradicating poverty among the Youths.
