MINISTRY OF WOMEN AFFAIRS

The ministry of
women Affair and social development was established in 1999. It is vested
with the responsibility of sensitizing women to be active and believe to
their responsibilities in the society, development of children and youths,
special care for children and adults in difficulties circumstances.
During the
period under review the ministry made some giant strides in the area of
project execution. It was during this period that the school for young
offenders at Gazara was completed at the cost of N7.5M, Renovation works
were also carried out on the children’s home Kanfanchan at the cost of
N2.1M, Remand Home Kaduna at the cost of N2.4m. Income generating machines
were also bought and distributed to deserving individuals at the cost of
N4.8m.
As part of its
poverty alleviation programme , apart from the distribution of income
generating machines the ministry in conjunction with International first Aid
Society (IFAS) trained 495 people from 15 local government areas in the
state on Bee-Keeping where the ministry expended the sum (N4.9m. The state
government through the ministry also made some cash donation to 52 people in
difficult circumstances, while 16 physically handicapped persons received
tricycles.
As part of its
public enlightenment programme , the ministry organized workshops on various
issues as: Workshop on Harmful Traditional Practices, Three day workshop on
HIV/AIDS and three mouth vocational skills training for school girls drop-
out.
